This was my 3rd time presenting this course, & over time I've crafted it carefully to meet the needs of the student & practitioner of homeopathy & other "alternative" approaches to healing. 3rd time's a charm, it's said.  This is a coverage of these topics as I wish I had encountered them in my medical training.

Enrollment provides 4 years' access to all course materials.

Understanding & Working with Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmunity is considered the basis of over 80 described diseases, these affecting 2-5% of the western world’s population, impacting on 24 million people in the U.S. (7% of the U.S. population), with Women affected disproportionately. Autoimmune diseases are among the leading causes of death among women in the U.S. in all age groups up to 65 years. As homeopaths or other "alternative" healthcare providers we are often consulted by individuals struggling with these disorders, as conventional management is often problematic & fraught with often untoward effects.

in this 7-week online course, we’ll discuss the physiology, pathology, and conventional & homeopathic management of several diseases characterized as autoimmune in nature;

including

Rheumatic fever / Sydenham’s Chorea

PANDAS (Pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections)

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Psoriasis, Psoriatic arthritis

Reiter’s Syndrome (Reactive Arthritis)

Ankylosing Spondylitis

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Crohn’s Disease (Regional enteritis)

Ulcerative Colitis

Multiple Sclerosis

Parkinson’s Disease

Celiac Disease

Hashimoto’s (chronic lymphocytic) Thyroiditis

We’ll closely examine homeopathic management of representative cases, with comparative materia medical study; and review conventional approaches to management that we may encounter in our patient populations, along with other evidence-based “alternative” or complementary approaches to management.

In order to work with these disorders effectively we need to know a little about their etiology & physiologic basis; in order to perceive “what it is that needs to be cured”.

Hippocrates asserted that “all disease begins in the gut” - which may be a tremendous general overstatement, but with clear applicability to autoimmune disorders.

We’ll address the significance of:

Immune surveillance in the Gut-Associated Lymphoid Tissues, and the implications of “leaky-gut syndrome”

The role of the Vagus nerve & vagal innervation of the Enteric Nervous System in inflammatory disorders

The Gut biome, and the role of pro- and pre-biotics

Environmental factors disturbing the health of the gut

The role of bowel nosodes in homeopathic management

and other "alternative" approaches that relate to gut & vagal health

We'll meet live for 1½-2 hour webinar sessions, Tuesday evenings beginning January 17, and continuing for 10 weeks; subsequent modules in the series will meet in this same time slot, with occasional brief breaks, over a total of 60 weeks, to cover these topics in depth.  All sessions will be recorded, & posted as streaming video on the course support site, for review & make-up of missed sessions.  Note that although it will be possible to participate entirely self-paced via the recorded sessions, I strongly encourage all to participate via the live sessions as much as is possible, to take advantage of our opportunity for real-time discussion, and to provide me with the inspiration of a live community of participation.
